For spices, depending on how hot you want it, you can combine cinnamon, fennel seeds, cloves, and ginger or simply use a gluten-free Chili paste.
How I Make my Homemade Hoisin sauce
I add all ingredients to a cooking pot.
Over medium heat, I bring the mixture to a boil.
Once boiling, I reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 2 to 4 minutes, occasionally stirring, until the sauce thickens slightly.
I allow it to cool down to room temperature before storing it in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
